Health Communication: How to Achieve Your Objectives

Level:
Foundation
Area:
Medical Communication
Code:
MCF10
Duration:
03:00:00
Workshop profile:
This workshop will benefit any medical writer who would like to acquire the basic tools and develop the skills needed to tailor their writing to their objectives, as well as to specific audiences, from children to opinion leaders.
Objective:
It is commonly assumed that writing to communicate clear messages is an easy task. Indeed, it’s not. Communication is a job that requires specific skills. The objective of this workshop is to provide participants with methods for writing in health communication. Besides carefully targeting an audience, health communication also requires a fine analysis of your objectives. This is paramount if misunderstandings are to be avoided and the audience reached successfully. Ethical issues will also be discussed.
Content:
The seminar will be as interactive as possible and will be divided into two parts. In the first part participants will learn what is meant by health information journalism and be shown how to do it: what are its possible applications in journalism-related fields such as communication, marketing or the writing of scenarios for multimedia animations. This will be based on actual examples of texts and multimedia animations and will include instructions on how to recognise who you are meant to be writing for and how to determine what the purpose is. The second part of the seminar will be dedicated to a group exercise, the product of which will be analysed and discussed by the presenter and the participants.
